Why MicaSense + PIX4Dfields

Decision-grade indices — not pretty pictures.

Five (or ten) calibrated bands. A downwelling-light sensor that measures irradiance during the flight. A reflectance panel imaged before and after to anchor absolute values. The result: NDVI, NDRE and custom indices that are comparable across flights, sites and seasons — the difference between a pretty map and a decision your agronomist will defend.

Easepect bundles the sensor, the calibration consumables, the PIX4Dfields licence and a full one-day workshop — so your team is shipping prescription maps within a week of delivery.

Indices

What you get out the other side.

NDVI

Normalised Difference Vegetation Index — overall canopy vigour. The default index for crop-health screening.

NDRE

Normalised Difference Red Edge — earlier-warning index than NDVI for dense canopies and mature crops.

GNDVI

Green NDVI — sensitive to chlorophyll content; useful for cereal-grain phenotyping.

SAVI

Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index — corrects NDVI when soil background is dominant (sparse canopies, early growth).

CI

Chlorophyll Index — research-grade chlorophyll mapping with Dual / 10-band datasets.

Custom

Any band-math expression you need. PIX4Dfields supports user-defined indices — Easepect builds the per-crop playbook.

Workflow

From calibrated capture to prescription map.

01

Calibrate

Image the calibrated reflectance panel (CRP) before take-off. DLS 2 logs irradiance throughout the flight.

02

Fly

Grid mission at 75–80% forward / 75% side overlap. Synchronised captures across all bands per waypoint.

03

Process

Ingest into PIX4Dfields or PIX4Dmapper. Radiometric calibration + orthomosaic + index stack in one job.

04

Act

Zonation and variable-rate prescriptions exported to your farm-management system or VRT controller.

Sectors

Where MicaSense earns its keep.

  • Precision agriculture — broadacre cereals, sugarcane, rice, vegetables.
  • Plantation crops — oil palm, rubber, coconut, coffee, tea.
  • Plant breeding and phenotyping research.
  • Forestry — health, invasive species, fire-risk monitoring.
  • Wetland, mangrove and coastal ecosystem mapping.
  • Crop insurance — claim documentation with timestamped indices.
  • Environmental impact baselines (EIA / EIS).
  • Land-use and land-cover change detection.
FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need radiometric calibration? +

For decision-grade outputs — yes. DLS 2 logs in-flight irradiance and the calibrated reflectance panel anchors absolute reflectance. Together they give you outputs comparable across flights, sites and seasons. Without them, you are stuck with relative-only mapping.

RedEdge-P or Altum-PT? +

RedEdge-P for routine NDVI / NDRE agronomy on broadacre crops — sharper, lighter, cheaper. Altum-PT when irrigation-stress thermal matters in the same flight (water-stressed regions, high-value crops, controlled-environment agriculture).

What drone do these fly on? +

Standard mounting on DJI M300 / M350 RTK via Skyport. We bundle airframe, sensor and Skyport pre-configured. Custom airframe integration available on request.

How long is processing? +

A typical 100-ha agronomy flight processes in PIX4Dfields in 30–90 minutes on a workstation, or 2–4 hours in PIX4Dcloud. The radiometrically-calibrated index stack drops out at the end.

Is training included? +

Yes — every MicaSense sale includes a one-day field + office workshop in Singapore: flight planning, calibration routine, PIX4Dfields processing and index interpretation. Per-crop playbooks on request.

Next step

Brief a multispectral programme.

We supply the sensor, integrate it with your airframe, and run a one-day workshop on PIX4Dfields — typically within a fortnight.
